The big boy on the IS block, the 2012 Lexus IS 350 combines sportiness and luxury in a compact sedan that is both fun to drive and comfortable.

There aren’t any changes to the 2012 Lexus IS 350, but you will still find plenty to rave about. The IS 350 sedan seats five and is also available as a convertible (the IS 350C, which is reviewed separately on this site). The IS 350 competes with other luxury sedans such as the BMW 335, Infiniti G37, and Mercedes-Benz C350.

The 2012 Lexus IS 350 is powered by a 306-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6, which takes premium gas and is mated to a six-speed automatic with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters for auto-manual mode. The IS 350 generates 277 pounds-feet of torque for prime acceleration and features larger brakes than the IS 250 for enhanced stopping power. Handling is tight due to a double-whishbone front suspension and a multilink rear suspension.  Choose between rear-wheel and all-wheel drive. In terms of fuel economy, the IS 350 receives 18-19 mpg in the city and 26-27 mpg on the highway.

The 2012 IS 350 features a long-wheelbase for its size which improves handling, a wide stance, and standard 17-inch alloy wheels. Xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights and 18-inch alloy wheels are optional, while the F Sport package adds front-lip and rear-deck spoilers, an F Sport grille, and 18-inch Dark Graphite-finished wheels.

Refined appointments adorn the 2012 Lexus IS 350, including black metallic trim and bright electroluminescent instruments and gauges. Available options include a 14-speaker, 300-watt Mark Levinson audio system, heated/ventilated front seats, voice-activated hard drive-based navigation system, and power moonroof. Lexus’ Enform service, which is included with the navigation system and is free for one year, is a virtual concierge and helps you not only decide where to go but what to do. A USB port for your iPod and other mobile devices is standard, as is Bluetooth® connectivity and dual-zone automatic climate control.

The 2012 Lexus IS 250 is designed to keep you safe with a backup camera, ultrasonic parking sensors, all-disc antilock brakes, an electronic stability system, a full suite of airbags, and Vehicle Dynamic Integrated Management, which helps all systems to react faster to potential accidents. The Safety Connect service notifies the authorities of an accident and provides roadside assistance.
