The 2010 Chevrolet HHR Panel sports a 155-horsepower, 2.2-liter flex-fuel four-cylinder mated to a five-speed manual transmission—the use of E85 bumps the rating to 161 horsepower. A 172-horsepower (176 on E85), 2.4-liter engine is optional, as well as a four-speed automatic. For the 2010 model year, Chevy dropped the SS trim from the HHR Panel, so there is no turbo-four motor available here. With these powertrain options, the HHR achieves 22 mpg city and 29-32 mpg highway. Fuel economy is significantly superior to the Honda Element and Nissan Rogue, while it is on par with the Toyota Matrix. Chevrolet chassis engineering enables the HHR Panel to achieve a payload rating of 900 pounds, while the chassis and powertrain combine to enable a tow rating of 1,000 pounds.
A seat count of two, coupled with a wide open back section, dominates the interior landscape of the 2010 Chevrolet HHR Panel. Maximum cargo capacity is 63.1 cubic feet, which competes with or beats the best vehicles at this price point. The LS model comes with cloth seats, a CD player, remote power door locks and power windows, cruise control, and electric power steering. A three month subscription to XM Satellite Radio and air conditioning are also included. The LT model opens a few options up, such as a 260-watt Pioneer audio system with seven speakers, sunroof, running boards, heated seats and leather trim on the steering wheel and shift knob. Voice directions are available by subscription on the LT model as well, and a rearview camera will be available mid-model year.
A great safety package starts with a strong chassis and a nice airbag offering. Front and head airbags combine with the chassis to deliver Five-Star front and side impact ratings in NHTSA testing. Four-wheel antilock brakes provide great stopping power, while traction and stability control systems keep the HHR from escaping the driver’s control during inclement weather and accident avoidance maneuvers.
A van-style layout, fuel efficient engines and great creature comforts combine to make the 2010 Chevrolet HHR Panel a uniquely capable yet affordable vehicle.
