The 2011 BMW X6 looks like a cross between a four-door sedan and a midsize SUV, and is available in xDrive35i and xDrive50i trim levels, with two potent engine options: a new, more-efficient 300-horsepower, turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder (xDrive35i), and a 400-horsepower, twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 (xDrive50i). Both engines are mated to new eight-speed automatic transmission with manual paddle shifters. In a demonstration of the SUV’s raw power, the V-8 is capable of accelerating the X6 from 0-60 in just 5.3 seconds.
In an effort to increase fuel-efficiency, BMW has employed a new Brake Energy Regeneration system on the 2011 X6, which recharges the battery during braking or coasting and is expected to save three percent on fuel consumption. That, along with the more efficient six-cylinder engine provides a significant increase in fuel economy ratings to 14-17 mpg in the city and 20-25 mpg on the highway.
Rivaling the Porsche Cayenne and Mercedes-Benz-M Class, the all-wheel-drive (xDrive) 2011 BMW X6 sits atop standard 19-inch wheels with run-flat tires or optional 20-inch wheels. From the exterior, the X6 features black moldings around the twin grilles, a monotone front bumper and sloping roofline. A power liftgate is standard and automatic high-beam headlights are optional.
Inside, the 2011 BMW X6 is adorned in leather trim and seats four occupants. BMW's iDrive system is available with an optional navigation system that has been updated and revamped with more shortcut keys, better graphics and improved menu functionality. Sounds are provided by a 10-speaker sound system with a CD player and HD radio that can be controlled via the steering wheel. Available features include four-zone climate control with settings for each rear passenger and heated front and rear seats.
For 2011, the BMW X6 features the Dynamic Performance Control differential with electronic stability and traction control systems designed to maximize stability. In addition, the xDrive50i has upgraded brakes with aluminum calipers. Other standard safety technologies include four-wheel-disc antilock brakes, side-impact airbags for the front seats and side curtain airbags for both rows. Lane Departure Warning, Rear view camera with Top View, head-up display and BMW Assist (which connects you with roadside assistance) with Bluetooth connectivity are optional.
Using a unique approach to the driving experience, the 2011 BMW X6 SAC is a perfect fusion of power, efficiency, luxury and safety.
